Welcome to Our Lady of Perpetual Help’s 2023 Summer Reading Challenge!

Did you know reading 4-5 books over the summer can prevent a decline in reading achievement? This year Our Lady of Perpetual Help is again making it a priority to keep your child’s skills sharp by encouraging them to read all summer long.

To participate, each student will keep track of his or her minutes on a personal reading calendar. At the end of the month, total minutes will be entered into a Google Form for tracking purposes. Prizes will be awarded throughout the summer based on participation. When students submit their reading minutes each month throughout the summer they will earn digital certificates as they meet their monthly reading goals. The goals for this summer are 440 minutes (10 minutes per weekday) for kindergarten, 825 minutes (15 minutes per weekday) for 1st thru 5th grades and 1100 minutes (20 minutes per weekday) for 6th thru 8th grades.

At the beginning of next school year, Mrs. Scheetz will review the reading minutes of all students. Every student that participates in the program will receive a certificate. The students with the top reading minutes in each class and students who meet the summer goal will be recognized and entered into a drawing for a grand prize.  Last summer, we read 209,580 minutes. Let’s aim to beat last year’s total!

Our OLPH photo contest also returns this summer. At Our Lady, 2023 is the summer of faith, family, and fun. All summer long, we are going to have fun celebrating, and we’re asking you to send us photos representing your faith,  family, and all the fun you have this summer.  For every photo you submit to photos@olphbeth.org, your child(ren) will earn an entry into a drawing for an awesome prize. The drawing will take place at the beginning of the school year. We can’t wait to celebrate with you this summer!
