Welcome to Our Lady of Perpetual Help’s 2022 Summer Reading Challenge!
Did you know reading 4-5 books over the summer can prevent a decline in reading achievement? This year Our Lady of Perpetual Help is again making it a priority to keep your child’s skills sharp by encouraging them to read all summer long.
To participate, each student will keep track of his or her minutes on a personal reading calendar. At the end of the month, total minutes will be entered into a Google Form for tracking purposes. Prizes will be awarded throughout the summer based on participation. When students submit their reading minutes each month throughout the summer they will earn digital certificates as they meet their monthly reading goals. The goals for this summer are 440 minutes (10 minutes per weekday) for kindergarten, 825 minutes (15 minutes per weekday) for 1st thru 5th grades and 1100 minutes (20 minutes per weekday) for 6th thru 8th grades.
At the beginning of next school year Mrs. Scheetz will review the reading minutes of all students. Every student that participates in the program will receive a certificate. The student with the greatest number of reading minutes in each class will be recognized and entered into a drawing for a prize. Last summer we read 186,222 minutes. Let’s aim to beat last year’s total!
Our OLPH photo contest also returns this summer. After another challenging school year, it’s time to celebrate this summer! Each month throughout the summer we are going to celebrate something special. You will find the information marked on the monthly reading calendars. For the month of June, we are celebrating the Great Outdoors. We’re asking for you to send photos of your family enjoying the Great Outdoors. For every photo you submit to firstname.lastname@example.org your child(ren) will earn an entry into a drawing for an awesome prize. The drawing will take place at the beginning of the school year. We can’t wait to celebrate with you this summer!
